ICM - The Institute for Brain and Spinal Cord


The Brain & Spine Institute(ICM) is a research centre of international dimensions without equivalent in the world, innovative both by design and organisation. By bringing together under one roof patients, physicians and researchers, the objective is to produce rapid treatment of lesions affecting the nervous system and to apply them to patients in the speediest possible way. Coming from various horizons and all countries, the best scientists will develop cutting-edge research in this field.
To enable the scientists to further their research and offer patients genuine hope, we all need to get involved, including government authorities, companies and individuals alike. Nobody could be excluded as this fight concerns us all.

CENIR is the neuroimaging platform of the ICM.

Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris


The Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris
(AP-HP) hosts the ICM on the site of the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital.
The AP-HP is a public health institution within the City of Paris which carries out tasks of patient care, teaching, medical research, prevention, health education and emergency medical care.
The AP-HP is the Centre hospitalier universitaire d'Ile-de-France. It includes 38 hospitals or hospital groups organized geographically in University Hospital Groups (GHU North, East, South, West) to offer users closer to home, a range of services tailored to the health needs.

Université Pierre et Marie Curie


The University Pierre et Marie Curie - Paris 6 is CENIR partner. The University Pierre et Marie Curie is now the largest scientific and medical complex in France: 4000 researchers and lecturers and 3,000 engineers, technicians, administrative and service staff working there and UPMC welcomes 30,000 students.
University of Paris and the Paris region, it also plays an important role at the national level because of the skills it gathers, and positions itself as a major European university. The Times Higher Education (THE) ranks the UPMC among the best universities in the world in 2012 to 81st place (84th place in 2011). In 2012, UPMC is also the second French university in the Shanghai ranking, located at 42nd place in the world and the 8th place of the best universities in Europe.



Founded in 1964, the National Institute of Health and Medical Research is a public scientific and technological institution under the dual supervision of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Research.
Inserm is a French public research body entirely dedicated to human health. Its researchers are committed to studying all diseases, whether common or rare, through their research in the biological, medical and population health.




The National Centre for Scientific Research is a public research organization (public institution with a scientific and technological, under the Ministry of Higher Education and Research). It produces knowledge and put that knowledge to the service of society.
CNRS is located across the country and operates in all fields of knowledge, based on more than 1,100 research units and service.





The CEA is the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives). The École Normale Supérieure (ENS) is an institution of higher education for undergraduate and graduate (graduate school) and a leading institution for French research. It accommodates fourteen departments of teaching and research that cover most of the literary and scientific disciplines. The ENS occupies the 26th place among the top 200 world universities in Times Higher Education (2007) and 34th in the world in QS World University Rankings (2012-2013).
